Words

Words, right? I´ve been overburdening this blog with pictures. I don´t know if it matters, who reads this anyways but people who I plead with. Har...

The problem with pictures is they take forever and a half to load in Central America. Most places here aren´t blessed with insta-internet like many norteamericanos.

Here is, at the moment, an internet café in Coban. Coban is in the Verapaz region of Guatemala, just about center of the country. It´s called Verapaz because the Spaniards named it "True Peace" after Bartolome de Las Casas and other Spanish friars managed to convert the Achi Maya, who had hitherto successfully kept conquistador Pedro Alvarado´s army from dominating the region, to Catholicism. The area used to be called Tierra de Guerra (land of war). Finding Christ I guess didn´t entail freedom for these folks...it facilitated their conversion to servants of the Spanish empire. God bless.

Mel is well. As am I. And we´re off...to Lanquin to spelunk in bat caves and be scandalous in limpid pools of blue.

peace and love

"limpid pools of blue"

I love that. Pools of blue. As opposed to pools of water. I think... right now I'd like to go swimming in a pool of orange, or maybe lime green. :-)
